The Suicide Prevention Coalition Dublin/Laurens County met today with 17 present. Denise Forbes opened the meeting with words of welcome and introductions. The minutes of the October 30, 2012 Meeting were approved.
SURVIVORS OF SUICIDE SUBCOMMITTEE
Tina Clements and Brenda Yawn continue to facilitate the SOS group meeting until a survivor can be appointed to facilitate. Brenda reported that we continue with no attendance at this time. Clara Boyer will attend SOS Training in Sandy Springs, Georgia, on February 1-2, 2013.
Tina mentioned that we may need to re-think the meeting date in order to accommodate Scott Warren’s scheduled.
Packets need to be distributed to the local funeral homes for survivors.
Care Packets for the Youth need to be developed (may be a future youth project).
Ellise will email Sherrie about sending us her packets so we can put our local coalition data in these and get them distributed.
We will need to “regroup” with these SOS projects now that Kris Taylor has moved and can no longer participate in the coalition efforts.

Youth Advisory Council: Two members of the Youth Advisory Council were present to discuss the Youth Christmas-Community Awareness Events. Cody reported that he was able to create approximately 50 ornaments for the Christmas tree at the OFLTC. It was decorated on November 20, 2012. There will be a “Sip-n-See” sponsored by Caring Companions on Thursday, December 13, 2012 from 4-6 p.m. All of the coalition members have been invited to attend this event. The ornaments will be sold for $7.00 each on a first come/first serve basis. Proceeds will help support future youth projects. Cody told the group the meaning of the ornaments (Key – key to happiness; Star – shine bright; Flower-growth; Dove – hope; and Glass Ball with Heart Inside – endless love).
Marquita Timmons reported that adult leaders are needed for the parade this Saturday (12/1/12). Lisa Montford and her husband will drive the truck to pull the float. At truck has been furnished by Dublin-Ford Company. The youth have made plans to work on the float this week at CSBMG (Thursday, November 27, 2012). The trailer will be assembled under the shelter behind CSB Building 8. Rhonda Cumpsty volunteered to assist during the parade. The youth are meeting today with the school counselors here at CSB to finish labeling the hot chocolate packets that they will handout during the parade. Larry Schenck will notify Ellise on Friday (11/30/12) what our position will be in the parade line-up.
The Billboard project for the youth will be announced in January and hopefully finalized by March 2013.
Garrett-Lee Smith Grant (Federal Grant through DBHDD –3 year grant).
The CSB Team members for Garrett-Lee Smith have all registered to participate in the MCHB Webcast: Moving from Awareness to Action in Bullying Prevention on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 from 3-4:30 p.m.
Lisa Montford reported that Adam Lesser has relocated due to a change of employment. We are still pending the receipt of the written contract.
We have no set dates yet from Kelly Canady for the QPR training sessions he will conduct at Dublin High School (six sessions total). Ellise will contact him about this and also about sending us the sign-up sheet for the QPR session that was conducted in September 2012 during the Social Workers’ Conference here in Dublin.
Lisa Montford will need to furnish Ellise with the 111 Training Forms for QPR to be sent to Sally vander Straeten for reimbursement of the QPR training sessions.
Marnie Braswell will be scheduling some QPR dates as well.
We need 8 sessions for our current FY13 contract.
Denise reminded the members that we were awarded an Oconee EMC Round-Up Grant ($4150.00). The grant funds target preventing suicide messages through local advertisement (bill boards). The announcement of the competition for the design and development of the billboard ad by the youth of the local school systems will be announced after the first of the year (January 2013).
Destiny Allen reported on Teen Maze (May 2013) at the last meeting in October. We have no further word on this project to report today.
Tina Clements and Brenda Yawn are registered for: Working with Those Bereaved by Suicide of Mental Health Professionals, scheduled for December 3, 2012 in Albany, GA. Two other CSB employees will also attend, Lynn Davies, and Debbie Mullis.
The Quilt Project was delayed due to Gloria Bowen’s absence from work. We will need to resume with this project after the first of the year.
The Suicide Prevention Screening Tool is still pending with DBHDD.
The Community Educator’s Project is also pending at this time.
Dr. Rumble suggested that we explore the options of become a United Way Agency.

There will be no coalition meeting in December. The next Coalition Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at the Community Mental Health Center, Building 5 – 2121 Bellevue Road, Dublin, GA.
