Clint Thomas reported that the Golf Tournament scheduled for Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Riverview Golf Course was postponed, due to lack of participation. It was noted that the Fundraising Committee had done an excellent job of planning. Clint Thomas and Amy Williams appeared on the Sue Colter Show (TV 35) on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 to promote the golf tournament and to discuss the Coalition in general. The “educational signs” to place on the golf course have been received and will be used for future community events. A suggestion was made that we use them during the upcoming “Suicide Prevention Week” activities coming up in September. We could also coordinate the use of these signs with Dr. Grigsby during the week-long activities planned by the V.A. Center in September.

There was more discussion about the development of a youth advisory council. Tina will talk with Jakimva Martin who is working in the school system to see if she can assist with planning and development. Marquitta Timmons will also assist in identifying youth for this advisory council. Marquitta felt that a purpose statement needs to be documented that can be used in the planning and solicitation of participants.
Denise continues to communicate with Sally vander Straeten regarding the Coalition’s FY12 proposal for the grant from DBHDD. Revisions were made per Sally’s instructions and the proposal was re-submitted last week. The grant will have an effective date of August 15, 2011 and there will be no re-imbursement for the meeting in July 2011. Sally noted that the grants are obtainable for three years and then the Coalitions must be self-sustaining. It was also noted that the expectation of the deliverables to State increases with each year’s renewed grants. This year we have more specific guidelines. The guidelines of the new proposal and new re-imbursement rates were reviewed today. It was suggested that the Coalition develop a Strategic Plan. We will need to be more creative and more involved in the community. There will need to be further discussion about this at the next meeting.
