Kris reported that attendance continues to be low to none. When the group first started it seemed to be going well, but following the 2011 Holidays it has continued to decline. Scott continues to assist with this group, but his job responsibilities continue to limit his availability. Willie Paulk offered her help in promoting more community education with regard to the SPC-D/L and the SOS Support Group. Following the meeting, she invited speakers to attend the Dublin/Laurens Chamber of Commerce Meeting on Thursday, August 2, 2012 to participate in a Community Partner Education Presentation. Plans are for Denise Forbes & Tina Clements to present educational information with regard to SPC-D/L with regard to the development, vision, and resources of the Coalition, as well as to discuss events held over the past three years. Tina will discuss and present on the Survivors of Suicide Support Group and Unity House to provide education about these community resources.

Pilar Archila again offered her assistance with media through the program that she hosts with TV35. Kris will communicate with Pilar to set up a filming for herself and Scott Warren to discuss the support group and the quilt project.

It was also suggested that we follow-up with Sheri Malone about ads and also with Channel 9 for posting some media ads there. Pilar stated that she has a contact person at Channel 9. Willie Paulk offered to get Kris connected with the Courier-Herald for some ads in the Community Calendar. Kris provided both ladies with her contact information today.

Kris reported that she is following up with Sheri McGuinness about sending some of her brochures. We can then add our local information to this brochure for distribution to families, etc.

Kris reported that she has another speaking engagement on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the Rise Phoenix Tour. This event will host filmmakers, Thomas Brown and Zachary Chipps. They are biking cross-country to connect with other Survivors of Suicide. A balloon release will be sponsored by the Middle Georgia Suicide Prevention Coalition of Macon to honor their local families and friends who have been lost to suicide.

Denise informed the group of Brenda Yawn’s request to transfer the responsibility of the Quilt Project to someone else. Kris Taylor and Scott Warren have agreed to assume this responsibility. During our June meeting, Sheri McGuinness suggested that we reach out to those individuals who provided the family names (32 names) for the Memory Launch in October 2011. Gloria Bowen has been working on this assignment and is contacting Payton Towns to promote this in a newspaper article.

Our Coalition will need two new Youth Advisory Council members next year, due to the graduation of two seniors. This will be discussed with the school counselors. We will again try to reach out to Trinity Christian School system. If they agree to participate, we will have 8 students on the Youth Advisory Council.

Lisa Montford has been communicating with Adam Lesser with regard to the Garrett-Lee Smith Grant. They will continue to coordinate this effort as it progresses. Three staff have already attended the Sources of Strength four-day training session that was held in Carrolton, GA (Daphne Fordham, Calecia Moorman, and LaTosha Tharpe – CSB Employees). This is in preparation for Sources of Strength in the Dodge and Laurens County School Systems. The first year our grant requires 4 schools; and 8 schools during the 2nd and 3rd years of the grant. Grant funds are still pending at this time. Lisa reported that we have letters of agreement from Dodge County, Dublin City, and Laurens County Schools.

It was suggested today that Michael Slaughter be assigned to serve on the subcommittee for Youth and Children. He expressed his desire to embrace this opportunity since he enjoys working with this age group.

Kelly Canady plans to conduct QPR training sessions at Dublin High School as soon as school resumes.
